Spring is Around the Corner!

Happy almost Spring! I hope you will join us this Thursday at 11:45 a.m. in room 204 for our next PTO meeting. Our PTO meetings are a great way to learn about what is happening in our schools and district. We are pleased that Julie Belden, the district's new CFO/Treasurer will be joining us to discuss the upcoming school levy that will be on the ballot on May 7. She and Dr. Ramey will be available to answer any questions that you may have. We also will be presenting our 2019-20 PTO budget.

Jennifer Almoney and I, as well as junior high Student Council representatives Emma Almoney, Erin Goeller, and Maeve Lynch, recently met with the parents of the incoming class of 2025 after the junior high scheduling meeting. We were able to provide information and answer questions regarding transitioning to the junior high. It can be a stressful time for students as well as parents as they make the transition from elementary to junior high. The PTO was thankful to be able to provide information that evening.

Our Curriculum Night was held on February 7. Incoming and current OHS students were able to meet teachers and learn about potential classes before they made their schedule choices for next year. Thanks to our OHS teachers for helping to make the night a success. A special thanks to Jan Swedlund and Libby Steeves for coordinating the event. The PTO provided dinner for our teachers participating in Curriculum Night as well as those staying for parent/teacher conferences. Thanks to Michelle Tucker for coordinating dinner from Barry Bagels.

We are excited to partner with the OHS Guidance department to help sponsor the OHS College Application Review Night on Wednesday, April 24. Please continue reading below for more information about this informative night for our high school families.

With the third quarter almost over, the end of the year will fly by! There is a lot to look forward to: Turnabout Dance (grades 10-12), Spring Musical, Prom and After Prom (grades 11-12), Junior High Success Breakfast and multiple other activities for our Seniors. Please take time out of your busy schedules to attend one of our meetings and find out how you can become more involved in our schools.

Curriculum Night a Big Success!

The sixth annual PTO-sponsored Curriculum Night took place on February 7 and, as usual, our OHS teachers, administration, and staff did a wonderful job! The west gym was filled with teachers, counselors, students, parents and incredible displays put together by different departments to showcase their curriculum. The teachers were able to meet with parents and students during the three hour showcase to answer questions and give scheduling advice. We welcomed our incoming ninth grade students and parents and they were very excited to meet with their high school teachers! The PTO also provided a meal for teachers and staff before Curriculum Night, as well as refreshments for families during the event. We are very fortunate to have a night like this as our students start to schedule classes for next year and would like to give a huge thank you to Kelly Owens, Beth Baker and all of the teachers and staff who made this night possible!

After Prom Needs Your Help!

After Prom 2019 is looking for donations and needs your help! After Prom is a parent-sponsored and funded event held at OHS from 11:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. It is funded by parent and local business donations and the goal is to provide a safe, alcohol and drug-free evening of entertainment. We are looking for cash donations, gift cards and grand prize merchandise. If you are interested in donating cash or a raffle prize (such as a TV, Apple Watch, air pods, etc.) please email Stephanie O'Hara. Checks can be made out to OHS with After-Prom in the memo, and can be dropped off along with cash donations at school or at the O'Hara home at 119 Lookout Drive. Thank you in advance for your support and please contact Stephanie O'Hara with any questions.

OHS College Application Review Night

The PTO is excited to help sponsor the first College Application Review Night on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Parents in grades 9-11 and students in grades 10 and 11 are invited to attend. College admission representatives from Case Western Reserve, Denison, Miami Universities and the Universities of Dayton and Notre Dame will be reviewing college applications and providing insight into the college application process. Those attending will be divided into small groups to discuss the pros and cons of the application reviewed and how decisions on admission will be made. This event is a must to attend for those intending to continue with their education post-graduation. Flyers will be sent home in the near future.
