Local Scholarships
DWK-Dan Weckstein Resilience Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to high school seniors who have shown extraordinary resilience to a personal or family life challenge. Examples include family, personal, health, physical, emotional, mental health, and all other scenarios where resilience has been demonstrated.

Lt. John C. White III Memorial Scholarship
This award is open to individuals who display the highest ideals of scholarship and athletics. There is no application. To be eligible for nomination a student must meet the following criteria: membership in National Honor Society, earned at least 3 Varsity “Os” in a school sponsored interscholastic sport, one Varsity “O” must have been earned in their senior year. The selection committee is composed of Senior Class President, Varsity “O” President, National Honor Society President, Senior Class Faculty Advisor, Varsity “O” Advisor or Athletic Director, National Honor Society Advisor, Student Council Advisor, or Guidance Department Chairperson. Each individual selects by ballot three nominees in order of preference. The ballots are then submitted to the trustees of the John White Scholarship Committee who meet with the High School Principal, Athletic Director, and Guidance Chairperson for final selection.

Marjorie Schmidt Golf Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a proficient female golfer.
2023 Recipient: Kara Hamblin
Jim Priest Memorial Washington & Lee Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student planning to attend Washington & Lee University.
Oakwood Teacher Association Scholarship
This scholarship is for a senior who attended OHS for two years and has been accepted to an accredited two or four-year college or university. Criteria includes scholarship, need, and career goals. Applicants must be either a child of an educator or planning to major in education. The selection is done in mid-May by a cross-section of teachers from all buildings in the Oakwood district.

Oakwood Rotary Scholarship
Recipients of this scholarship must be accepted at a two or four-year college or university. Criteria for the two or three grants include scholarship, need and career goals. Children of Rotary Club members are not eligible. The selection committee is composed of the Oakwood Rotary Scholarship Committee.

Oakwood Band Parents Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding senior band member.

John M. Martin Forensic Scholarship
Any senior who is a member in good standing of the National Forensic League or Thespians shall be eligible to apply for this scholarship. The student shall submit, in writing, a resume of her/his speech/debate or drama accomplishments, plus any other information displaying the candidate’s participation in communicative activities both in the school and community. The selection committee consists of the speech coach, the debate coach, a faculty member designated by the high school principal to represent the area of drama, one parent designated by the NFL Speech Parents’ Executive Committee (whose student is not eligible to receive the award) and an OHS School counselor.

McGill Family Scholarship in memory of Melissa McGill Church, 2007 Graduate
The family of Melissa McGill Church (2007 OHS graduate) established this scholarship in 2022 to honor her life and memory. As an occupational therapist for the Brownsburg (IN) Community Schools, Melissa devoted her life to helping her special needs students every day and all those she worked with. The scholarship will be awarded to a recipient who intends to enter a medical field: physician, nurse, occupational or physical therapy, psychology, etc.

Jon Liston FOP/FOPA Scholarship
This scholarship is for a senior who has been accepted to a two or four-year college or university. Criteria for the scholarship include community service, scholarship, need, and career goals. The FOP Scholarship Committee of the Oakwood Safety Department makes the selection.

LaSertoma Service Award
The awards committee will select one male or female senior student for nomination. This award places emphasis on community service. The award does not necessarily look for academic excellence, but for the student who has gone the extra mile in providing service to others within his/her community. The nominee will be invited to attend a dinner as the guest of LaSertoma.
2023 Recipient: Alex Zhang
Barbara Kuhlman Foundation
This scholarship is for a senior planning to major in the fiber arts field, which may include fiber art, fiber technology, fabric design, and fashion design. The student must have a 3.0 GPA and exhibit well-rounded qualities such as community service, employment, participation in sports and/or other school activities.
Each spring, The Oakwood Schools Foundation awards more than $20,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors. With increasing costs for higher education, The Oakwood Schools Foundation’s scholarships mean more now than ever to these recipients.
Thanks to the generosity of the individuals and families who established these scholarships and to the donors who contribute toward these funds each year, Oakwood’s college-bound students appreciate this support for their continuing education.

Awards involvement in community service and leadership skills.

Robert L. Davidson Scholarship
Recognizes present and potential ability as a creative writer.

Dr. Robert W. Gaines, Jr., OHS '60, Young Men's Golf Award
Recognizes a senior golfer who demonstrates good sportsmanship, consideration for others, academic achievement, leadership and community service.

Susan Herman GLOW Scholarship
Recognizes Grade point, Leadership, Outstanding character, Work ethic for a female planning to pursue a degree in a technical field (i.e. engineering) or the sciences.

Honors a student who has been involved in community service and plans to pursue a degree in a public service field.

Randy Neff Memorial Scholarship
Honors a student who inspires others and plants to major in education or math, with preference given to students aspiring to teach math and coach a sport.

Recognizes a student who is a team player and displays a strong work ethic, solid values, and maintains good grades through hard work and dedication.

Honors a student who distinguishes herself/himself during high school years. *Dependents of OSF Board members are ineligible.

Rader-Drummer Family Scholarship
Established in 2018 by Carlee (Rader) and Michael Drummer, graduates of the class of 1968, this scholarship recognizes an outstanding and motivated student who intends to attend an accredited college or university and major in architecture or the liberal arts such as English, theater, art, communications, foreign languages, history, music or philosophy. Preference will be given to English or architecture majors.
