Jack Epley

“Expect the unexpected.”

Jack Epley’s teammates know they have to be ready when playing with the Oakwood High School senior.

“My play is very fast paced, gritty and flashy. I enjoy making the plays nobody is expecting, whether that is no look passes or athletic shots,” Epley said.

OHS Boys’ Varsity Coach Paul Stone says Epley “does a little bit of everything,” playing strong offense, good defense and knowing where his teammates are on the court.  Epley credits his “IQ for the game” with being able to think multiple steps ahead when it counts.

“For a couple hours, nothing else matters, and you are able to give it your all with your teammates. Playing sports builds determination, perseverance, and mental strength - along with the connections it builds with others,” Epley said.

Epley has enjoyed playing multiple sports, including basketball, lacrosse, football, soccer, swimming and baseball.

“For me, it was a no brainer to stick with multiple sports. I definitely had the chance to play one sport year round.  However, I believe playing multiple sports is more beneficial. All sports connect through strategy.”

This year, Epley has shared his love of the game with his teammates, serving as a team captain.  Stone says the “younger players listen to him when he talks.”

Describing him as “tenacious and fearless,” Stone says Epley “doesn't back down from anyone.” He says the senior will be missed.

“He is the one of the best athletes I have had the privilege to coach in my 21 years of basketball,” Stone said.
